Researchers

The Musée de l'Armée’s collections, scientific work carried out to date and library all provide researchers with the tools required by all areas of academic research.

The Study and Research Media Library contains monographs (over 30,000 volumes), French and foreign periodicals (600, including 250 current titles), documentary resources, records of works, and private archival records.

The monographs’ main themes are weapons, uniforms, emblems and decorations. Added to these are works devoted to Napoleon I, the Hôtel des Invalides and military music, orders and regulations, campaign and regimental histories, biographies and memoirs, and history and art history resources.

The periodicals comprise weapons, uniforms and military history journals, and also journals for limited circulation published by museums, civil and military associations and learned societies.

The catalogue can be consulted at the following address: https://bibliotheques-numeriques.defense.gouv.fr

The documentary sources include files classified into five major themes: equipment (weapons, artillery, vehicles, facilities and property), troops (classified by their weapons or subdivisions of weapons), history, fine arts and biographies, and also private archival records and records of the Museum’s works.
