This exhibition, created by Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab and the French company Iconem with the support of Mission Libération, takes visitors on an immersive narrative journey in two parts.

“Landscapes of Memory”: a 22-minute immersive experience on panoramic screens

The first part relives three major events leading up to the Liberation of France in 1944: the Provence and Normandy landings and the Liberation of Paris.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have enabled exploitation of an extensive collection of vintage photographs with a view to creating 3D versions, adding perspective and colourisation effects. By breathing life into historical images, these techniques reinforce the audience’s immersion, providing a striking visual experience.

Thanks to AI-enhanced mapping, visitors really get to appreciate the significance of these key events in 1944, recreated in their geographical and temporal context.

“Faces of Memory”: 17 testimonies by heroes of the Liberation

The second part of the exhibition presents moving testimonies on the part of individuals who took part in these events. By means of AI, their stories have been enriched from previously unpublished photographic archives and reconstituted by a voice generator. As a result, visitors are provided with a more immediate experience of these intimate accounts.

« We’ve put technology at the service of history so as to make the experience more human, more accessible » Eneric Lopez, directeur de l’IA chez Microsoft

The exhibition has obtained the State’s MISSION LIBÉRATION LABEL. It is produced in partnership with Iconem, Microsoft and with the support of Mission Libération.
